Imagine the feeling some people get on being shown into a garage of performance cars or a walk-in wardrobe stuffed with designer frocks and shoes. Every shelf and surface, cubby hole and counter top, nook and cranny is stuffed with the cream of TG Green Cornishware. Small wonder the distinctive electric or e-blue and cream banded pottery has been the favourite of housekeepers, housewives, hippies, Hooray Henrys and now hipsters since its launch in ; it is breath-taking. Iain, archivist and historian, has one of the most comprehensive private collections pieces and counting of TG Green pottery in the world. My eyes are practically on stalks. Cornishware is a striped kitchenware brand trademarked to and manufactured by T. Originally introduced in the s and manufactured in Church Gresley , Derbyshire, it was a huge success for the company and in the succeeding 30 years it was exported around the world. Green was bought by a trio of British investors. The name “Cornishware” came from an observation by a T.

G Green salesmen that the blue color used to decorate the dishware reminded him of the sky and sea in Cornwall. Cornwall was also the initial source for the clay to make the pottery.
